The book

The message is clear: Humans are designed to be happy.

This is a compilation of Mo Gawdat's excerpts.

Short. Simple. On point.

I highly recommend you to read the book if you're really into the happiness 'thing.'

I am one of those people who keep on searching to define what happiness really is.

I love being reminded of simple truths.

I love how short statements can strike a chord in our minds and move us to do something.

P.S. Once again, please do read the book; this is purely mindgasmic (to me at least).

I only handpick those that resonate the most to me. The ones that I truly can relate to and ponder upon.

So...without further delay...

"The gravity of the battle means nothing to those at peace."

"Happiness is the absence of unhappiness."

"Happiness is your default state."

"Success is not an essential prerequisite to happiness."

"While success doesn't lead to happiness, happiness does contribute to success."

"Solve for happy."

"It's the thought, not the actual event, that's making you unhappy."

"As much as we hate it, pain and the discomforts of life are useful."

"We let our suffering linger as a form of self-generating pain."

"Suffering offers no benefit whatsoever. None!"

"Happiness starts with a conscious choice."

"With no thoughts, we return to our default, childlike, state: happiness!"

"True joy is to be in harmony with life exactly as it is."

"You should never settle for anything less than joy."

"The little voice in your head is not you."

"I am, therefore I think."

"The more something matters, the more incessant thought will be left out of it."

"You are the boss. You get to choose."

"I am, therefore my brain thinks."

"Your brain can be primed."

"Happy thoughts."

"Happiness is always found in the positive side of every concept."

"For the brain, multitasking is a myth!"

"Learn to shut the duck up."

"You are not the voice in your head."

"You are not your body!"

"You are the observer."

"You are the one who sees."

"Be yourself no matter what they say."

"Undress. Drop all the other copies and love the real you. Bravo, Pooki!"

"Everything is both good and bad. Or perhaps everything is neither."

"You are not the star of the movie."

"Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance."

"Sometimes when you stray off your track, life nudges you hard...and that's not bad!"

"You truly never know for sure."

"Nothing is good or bad, but thinking makes it so."

"Time isn't moving; you're the one who is moving through time."

"Time changes for everyone."

"Time completely fails the test of time!"

"Happy emotions are mostly anchored in the present."

"When we're focused on the past or the future, we're living in our thoughts, and not in reality."

"If you want to be happy, live in the here and now."

"In this very moment, there is absolutely nothing wrong at all."

"Life is now and now is amazing."

"Between black swans and butterfly effects, nothing is under your control."

"Take the responsible action first, then release the need to control."

"Choose your attitude!"

"It is all going to be fine in the end. If it is not yet fine, then it is not yet the end."

"When you put your mind to it, you can overcome pain."

"There is no safe model. The harder you try, the more you will fail."

"There are no positive aspects to fear. It's your actions and not your fears that keep you safe."

"The only thing that life wants is to be experienced."

"Right now, you're okay."

"Learn to die before you die. It is time to face your fears."

"Most of us tend to be negative most of the time."

"Our brains tend to criticize, judge, and complain more often than not."

"Life is almost entirely made of positives."

"Focus on the white of the page, not the black of the ink."

"How much of the constant stream of thoughts in my head is true?"

"The story your brain tells you is always incomplete."

"An assumption is nothing more than a brain-generated story. It's not the truth!"

"Predicting something will happen often lays the path to make it happen."

"Your predictions are nothing more than brain-generated future possibilities. They have not happened. They're not the truth!"

"Your memories are nothing more than a record of what you think happened. They're often not the truth!"

"In the absence of context, labels very often cover up the truth."

"We're not as rational as we think. Our perception of the truth is often distracted by our irrational emotions."

"What's more than the truth is less than true."

"Teach your brains, to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth."

"Every truth happens exactly as expected, even when you least expect it."

"The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off."

"Being fully aware of the present moment considerably increases your chances of being happy."

"Awareness isn't an on/off switch. It's a dimmer switch. When you choose to crank it up, you become more aware."

"You don't need to do anything to be aware. Your default status is awareness. To reach it you need to stop doing!"

"Stop doing and just be."

"The result of awareness is a net positive especially when there's nothing to do."

"The black belt of presence is to notice when you're not aware."

"Less is more."

"It's time for an awareness break."

"You will be fully present once you remove the connection with time."

"Be aware of the journey. This is where all of life happens."

"Whatever you do, give it your undivided attention."

"Live your life in the here and now, not inside your head."

"No effort is needed to keep any system at its equilibrium. When everything you do feels effortless, you'll have found your path."

"Let everything seek its natural balance."

"Live on the line where the yin meets the yang."

"Seek the path of least resistance."

"Live on the Path."

"Only when we look down do we realize how fortunate we really are!"

"Gratitude is a sure path to happiness."

"Look down!"

"Unconditional love is real. It's the only emotion that's not generated by thought in your head."

" 'No expectation' never turns into a missed connection."

"The true joy of true love is in giving it."

"The more love you give, the more you get back."

"Love never goes to waste. The more you give it away, the more loved you will feel."

"Gently remove the mask of ego and love what you see underneath."

"Love yourself for doing your best."

"What you just said made me feel bad about myself, and I don't like being around people who make me feel bad, so, don't do it again."

"You make me feel bad about myself. I deserve better."

"You - apart from your ego - are truly lovable."

"To love is to give all you can."

"Let life flow. Keep what you use and give away the rest."

"Giving never takes away from the sack. More is always comes back."

"Giving is the good side of selfishness! It makes the giver happy."

"Choose to be kind instead of right!"

"Love is all you need."

"We die a little every day."

"Without death, there wouldn't be life."

"Sooner or later, we all become ready to die."

"Death will never hurt you."

"There's no cheating death. We all go someday!"

"Life is always is."

"While our physical form decays, we never really die."

"Accepting death will set you free, but first it will really piss you off."

"Live this moment as if it were your last."

"Nothing can be gained that will not eventually be lost."

"Rent a full and happy life."

"Live In Peace; L.I.P."

"Have fun!"

"There's no scientific way to prove that something does not exist!"

"Absence of a proof that something exists does not prove that it doesn't."

"Absence of a proof that something does not exist should be seen as a probability that it does."

"Everybody worships. The only choice we get is what to worship."

"We are all part of a grand design."

"There is a grand designer, and there was a Steve Jobs too."

"There's no divine intervention."

"The design is just functional."

"The results of our own acts should be blamed on the design."

"Life always meets realistic expectations."

"Accept the design."

"Live the truth. Finding joy truly is that simple!"

"When nothing is certain - and nothing ever is - choose to be happy."
